Timelines for Initial Care and Insurer Authorization of Long-Term Care
Generally, you can seek medical care after an accident at your Bakersfield workplace from any MPN or pre-designated physician for up to 30 days after getting hurt without needing to get authorization from your employer or their insurer. If you need further care for a long-term or permanent injury, or if you need certain types of specialized care, you may need to seek authorization from the insurance company before they will reimburse you.
Notably, though, California Code of Regulations Title 8, § 9792.9 sets strict time limits for how long insurers have to either authorize or delay certain types of care—for example, five working days for non-urgent care but no more than 72 hours for emergency care. If your insurance provider is unreasonably delaying their response to your authorization request, one of our lawyers could help you seek remedies that may include automatic coverage of your medical expenses.
